I saw some posts about an artificial intelligence tool that claimed that the American Declaration of Independence was written by ChatGPT, even though it has been in existence for almost 250 years.
⚗ I tried it myself, found the tool in question with a simple search and fed it the declaration taken from Wikipedia.
And it’s true! It says it was 98% written by ChatGPT! 😱
So I had fun (although I know you have a different idea of fun…) feeding it the first chapter of Alessandro Manzoni’s “The Betrothed”.
Result: 100% written by a human. He nailed it! 👌
I then tried to get closer to the initial context and fed it the guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools, from the Italian Privacy Guarantor, those of 2021 that are referred to when talking about GDPR.
Result: +56% of text generated by AI… 🤔
Considering that until December 2022 ChatGPT was used by practically no one (Google Trends), it seems strange to me that the political class, always lagging behind on technology, was so far ahead…
I carried out the test with the same texts on other instruments. In these other cases, the result was consistent with expectations.
All 3 texts in the example were found to be written by humans.
Therefore, apart from the various theories on how these AI detectors are trained, it must be said that not all of them are reliable, including the one in the first test despite self-proclaimed “the most advanced AI detector on the market”.
So, in general, one should always be careful because there can be false positives that can lead to hasty conclusions even in the case of content providers that do not use AI.
Have you had similar experiences with texts written for your own or your customers’ websites?
